According to Xinhua News Agency, from July 28 to 29 local time, the Chinese head of the Sino-US economic and trade talks, Vice Premier He Lifeng, met with the US head of the talks, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, and US Trade Representative Katherine Tai, in Stockholm, Sweden, for Sino-US economic and trade discussions. Both sides engaged in candid, in-depth, and constructive exchanges on Sino-US economic and trade relations, macroeconomic policies, and other jointly concerned economic and trade issues, reviewing and affirming the consensus reached at the Sino-US Geneva economic and trade talks and the implementation of the London framework.
According to the consensus reached during the talks, both sides will continue to push for the extension of the 24% portion of reciprocal tariffs imposed by the US, which has been suspended, as well as China's countermeasures for another 90 days.
This is an exterior view of the venue of the China-US economic and trade talks held on July 29th in Stockholm, Sweden. He Lifeng stated that both sides' economic and trade teams should take the important consensus reached by the two heads of state on June 5th as guidance, uphold the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, respect each other's concerns, further consolidate consensus, and deepen mutual trust. China's position on Sino-US economic and trade relations is consistent; the essence of Sino-US economic and trade relations is mutually beneficial and win-win. Both sides have extensive common interests and broad cooperation space in the economic and trade field. Cooperation benefits both, while conflict hurts both.
Stable, healthy, and sustainable economic and trade relations between China and the United States are not only beneficial for achieving their respective development goals but also conducive to promoting global economic development and stability. Moving forward, both sides should continue to fully leverage the role of the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism based on the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, continuously enhance mutual understanding, reduce misunderstandings, strengthen cooperation, deepen dialogue and consultations, and strive for more win-win outcomes.
The U.S. side stated that a stable U.S.-China economic and trade relationship is of significant importance to both countries and the global economy. It is willing to work with China to continue resolving economic and trade differences through the U.S.-China economic and trade consultation mechanism, promote more negotiation outcomes, and further stabilize the U.S.-China economic and trade relationship.
After the talks, Li Chenggang, China's Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy Special Representative for International Trade Negotiations, told the media that over the past day and a half, both sides have implemented the important consensus reached by the two heads of state on June 5th, fully leveraging the role of the Sino-US economic and trade consultation mechanism, and conducted candid, in-depth, and constructive exchanges on key economic and trade issues of mutual concern.
Both sides fully recognize the importance of maintaining a stable and healthy economic and trade relationship between China and the United States." Li Chenggang said that during the talks, both Chinese and U.S. sides conducted comprehensive and in-depth exchanges on each other's macroeconomic policies, reviewed the consensus reached at the Geneva economic and trade talks and the implementation of the London framework, and gave full affirmation.
The economic and trade teams of China and the United States will continue to maintain close communication, exchange views on economic and trade issues in a timely manner, and continue to promote the stable and healthy development of bilateral economic and trade relations." Li Chenggang said.
Li Chenggang also expressed gratitude to the host country, Sweden, for its facilitation and support for this meeting.
